Terms of Use
Effective date: 28 August 2026 · Applies to the Verbum mobile app, the web app at verbumlang.org and the Verbum Telegram bot
The short version. Use Verbum to learn languages, keep it to yourself, don't try to break it. The words you add are yours. PRO is a subscription billed by Google Play that you can cancel any time. We do our best to keep the app accurate and available, but we can't promise perfection — and nothing here takes away rights you have as a consumer where you live.
1. Agreement
These Terms of Use ("Terms") are an agreement between you and Verbum ("Verbum", "we", "us") covering the Verbum mobile application, the web application at verbumlang.org, the Verbum bot and Mini App on Telegram, and this website (together, the "Service").
By installing, opening or using the Service you accept these Terms. If you do not accept them, please do not use the Service. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your data and forms part of this agreement.
2. Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms — for example when we add a feature or a payment option changes. The current version is always published on this page with its effective date. If a change materially affects your rights we will tell you inside the app, or by a message to the account you signed in with, before it takes effect. If you keep using the Service after that, you accept the new Terms; if you do not want them, you may stop using the Service and delete your account.
3. Who may use Verbum
You must be at least 16 years old to use the Service. If the law where you live sets a higher age for agreeing to online services or for consenting to the processing of your data, you must meet that age instead.
You must also be allowed to use the Service under the laws that apply to you. We may limit availability in particular countries or regions.
4. Your account
Verbum works without an account: your words live on your device. Signing in with Telegram or Google backs your deck up and synchronises it across your devices.
You are responsible for keeping access to your Telegram or Google account secure, since anyone with access to it can reach your Verbum deck. Tell us promptly if you believe your account has been used without your permission.
One account is for one person. Please do not share it or transfer it to someone else.
5. Licence to use the app
We grant you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use the Service for your own language learning, on devices you own or control, in accordance with these Terms and with the rules of the store you installed it from.
This licence does not transfer any ownership to you, and it ends when this agreement ends.
6. Your content
The words, translations, tags, associations and notes you add are yours. You keep all rights to them.
To run the Service we need permission to handle them: you grant us a worldwide, royalty-free licence to store, copy, transmit and display your content solely in order to operate the Service for you — for example to synchronise your deck between your phone and your browser, or to include it in a backup. That licence exists only for that purpose and ends when you delete the content or your account.
We do not publish your content, sell it, or use it to train models. You can export your words or delete everything from Settings → Account in the app.
You are responsible for what you add. Do not upload content that is unlawful, infringes someone else's rights, or that you have no right to store.
7. Acceptable use
Please do not:
- copy, sell, rent, sublicense or redistribute the Service or any part of it;
- reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble the app, except to the extent the law expressly allows it despite this restriction;
- modify the app, or use a modified or repackaged build;
- remove or obscure any copyright, trademark or other proprietary notice;
- use bots, scrapers or automated scripts against the Service, or make an unreasonable volume of requests;
- try to gain unauthorised access to our servers, other users' accounts, or any data that is not yours;
- interfere with the Service's security, availability or integrity, including by circumventing limits, ads or paid features;
- use the Service to store or transmit unlawful, abusive, or infringing material;
- use the Service to build or train a competing product;
- use it in any way that breaks the law that applies to you.
If you break these rules we may suspend or close your account, without notice where the breach is serious or ongoing.
8. Verbum PRO
Verbum is free to use with ads and with limits on some features. Verbum PRO is an optional paid subscription that removes ads and unlocks the paid features described in the app at the time of purchase.
- Billing. Subscriptions are sold and billed by Google Play under your Google account. The price, the billing period and any introductory or trial offer are shown before you confirm the purchase.
- Renewal. Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends. By purchasing, you authorise Google to charge your payment method on each renewal date at the then-current price.
- Cancelling. Cancel any time in Google Play under Subscriptions. Cancelling stops the next renewal; you keep PRO until the end of the period you already paid for.
- Price changes. If we change the price of a subscription, Google will notify you and ask for your agreement before the new price applies to you.
- Free trials. Where a trial is offered, it converts into a paid subscription unless you cancel before it ends.
9. Refunds
Purchases are handled by Google Play, so Google's refund policy applies and refund requests are made through Google Play. Beyond that, if something on our side went wrong, write to us within 14 days of the charge at support@verbumlang.org and we will look at it and help where we reasonably can.
If you are a consumer in the European Union or the United Kingdom, you have a statutory right to withdraw from a purchase within 14 days. Where you ask us to start providing digital content immediately, that right may end once delivery has begun. Nothing in this section limits statutory consumer rights you have where you live.
10. Advertising
The free version shows ads supplied by third-party networks. We do not control the content of individual ads and are not responsible for the products, services or websites they lead to; any dealings you have with an advertiser are between you and them. Ad targeting and your consent choices are described in the Privacy Policy. Subscribing to PRO removes ads.
11. AI-assisted features
Photo scanning, word suggestions, translations and grammar exercises are produced automatically with the help of AI models. They are useful, and they are sometimes wrong: a word may be recognised incorrectly, a translation may miss a nuance, a grammatical form may not be the one a native speaker would choose.
Please treat these outputs as study material, not as professional, medical, legal or certified translation advice, and check anything that matters. These features require an internet connection and may be unavailable, rate-limited or changed at any time.
12. Third-party services
The Service works alongside services we do not run — Telegram, Google Play and Google Sign-In, advertising networks, and the AI provider described above. Their own terms and policies apply to your use of them, and we are not responsible for what they do or for their availability. Links to third-party websites are provided for convenience only.
13. Our intellectual property
The Service, including its source code, design, interface, animations, artwork, the Verbum mascot, the name "Verbum" and its logo, belongs to us and is protected by copyright, trademark and other laws. Except for the licence in section 5, nothing in these Terms gives you any right in it.
If you send us feedback or suggestions, we may use them to improve the Service without any obligation or payment to you. You are not required to send us feedback.
14. Availability and changes to the Service
We work to keep the Service running, but it may be unavailable during maintenance, faults or events outside our reasonable control. We may add, change or remove features, and we may discontinue the Service. If we discontinue it, we will give reasonable notice where we can and give you the opportunity to export your words first.
15. Disclaimer
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any particular learning outcome will follow from using it.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
16. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, or loss of goodwill, arising out of or connected with your use of the Service.
Our total liability to you for all claims arising in any twelve-month period is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us for the Service in the six months before the claim arose, or fifty United States dollars.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be excluded by law — and if you are a consumer, your statutory rights are unaffected.
17. Ending the agreement
You can stop using the Service at any time, and you can delete your account and your data from Settings → Account in the app.
We may suspend or end your access if you materially breach these Terms, if we are required to by law, or if we discontinue the Service. Sections that by their nature should survive — content licences already granted, intellectual property, disclaimers, liability and governing law — survive the end of this agreement.
18. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Ukraine, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, and the courts of Ukraine have jurisdiction over any dispute. If you are a consumer resident in the European Union, the United Kingdom or another jurisdiction whose law grants you the protection of your local courts and mandatory consumer rules, those protections continue to apply to you and nothing here removes them.
Before starting any formal proceedings, please write to us — most issues are resolved by email in a few days.
19. General
- These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between us about the Service and replace any earlier version.
- If any provision is found unenforceable, the rest stays in force and that provision is applied as closely as possible to its original intent.
- If we do not enforce a provision straight away, we do not waive our right to enforce it later.
- You may not transfer your rights under these Terms. We may transfer ours to a successor in connection with a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, provided your rights are not reduced.
- These Terms are written in English. A translation is provided for convenience only; the English text prevails.
